Slip jigs for Irish dancing

Slip jigs are the graceful 9/8 dance form of the Irish jig tradition. In step dancing they are performed in light shoes with a triple-step pattern counted 123–456–789, giving a flowing, lilting feel that is quite different from the bouncy 6/8 single jig.

Practice tempo

Dancers usually practice slip jigs around 112–124 beats per minute, while session musicians often play them faster. Use the MIDI player on any tune page to slow the tune to dance speed, or open the LoopTube video (where available) to loop individual parts at a chosen playback speed.
