About TuneSource

TuneSource is a free online library of Irish traditional session tunes. The goal is simple: make it easy to find, learn, and practice the tunes you need for sessions and music-making.

Every tune page includes rendered sheet music, mandolin tablature, MIDI playback with adjustable tempo, a YouTube tutorial link where available, and the raw ABC notation for use in your notation app of choice.

The Collections

The primary source is the Norbeck ABC Tune Collection — a comprehensive digitised set of over 2,000 Irish and Scottish traditional tunes maintained by Henrik Norbeck.

Alongside this, TuneSource features the Foinn Seisiún collection — tunes from the popular Walton's Foinn Seisiún book series, curated specifically for session players and beginners.

ABC Notation

TuneSource uses abcjs to render ABC notation as sheet music and generate MIDI playback in the browser. ABC notation is a widely used text-based format for notating folk and traditional music.

LoopTube

For learning by ear, TuneSource links to LoopTube — a tool for looping and slowing down any YouTube video. Perfect for picking out ornaments and tricky passages.
